JCB J/Speedy — EMVCo Kernel 5

JCB J/Speedy (Kernel 5): no TTQ — standard 9F33/9F40 terminal capabilities plus Transaction Category Code (9F53) and card-provided Device Information (9F6E).

Overview

Kernel 5 is the EMVCo contactless kernel for JCB J/Speedy. It does not use a TTQ. Reader capability is expressed through the standard Terminal Capabilities (9F33) and Additional Terminal Capabilities (9F40) tags.

The Transaction Category Code (9F53) drives special handling such as transit, and the card may return Device Information (9F6E) describing its form factor and capabilities.

No TTQ — standard capability tags + 9F53

Kernel 5 relies on 9F33 / 9F40 for terminal capabilities. The Transaction Category Code (9F53) influences CVM and limit handling, and 9F6E (Device Information) is supplied by the card rather than the terminal.

Cardholder verification

CVM is resolved from the card CVM list; low-value transit taps (per 9F53) may proceed with no CVM.
