Nasdaq Calypso
Nasdaq Calypso is a cross-asset, front-to-back platform for capital markets and treasury. A single integrated system runs the full trade lifecycle — front-office trading and pricing, middle-office risk and P&L, and back-office confirmation, settlement and accounting — across cash and derivatives. Formerly Calypso Technology, then part of Adenza, it is now sold by Nasdaq. This guide covers the architecture, the asset coverage, and where it fits in the stack.
The trade lifecycle Calypso automates
The platform's job is to carry one trade from execution to books-and-records without leaving the system. Each stage below is a Calypso function operating on the same trade object. Step through the animated flow — click any step to expand what happens.
How one trade moves through Nasdaq Calypso without leaving the platform: booked in the front office, it updates risk and P&L in real time, feeds collateral, and is confirmed, settled and booked to the sub-ledger — all off the same shared trade object.
Capture & pricing
Trade booked in the Front Office Workstation and priced with the shared analytics libraries.
The trade can be keyed by a trader or received via an adapter from a trading venue. It is validated against static and market data and stored as a single trade object that every downstream function reads from — no re-keying between systems.

Risk & P&L
The new position immediately updates real-time risk, sensitivities, limits and official P&L — no overnight batch required to see the book move.
Collateral & margin
Exposure feeds collateral and margin: CSA calls, cleared-margin calculation and optimization run off the same exposures.
Confirmation & matching
Back office generates confirmations, matches against the counterparty (e.g. via electronic confirmation networks) and manages exceptions.
Settlement & payments
Settlement instructions and payment messages are generated and dispatched to custodians, CSDs and payment rails (SWIFT, RTGS). Calypso supports automation for accelerated settlement cycles such as T+1.
Accounting & reporting
Sub-ledger accounting, reconciliation and regulatory/financial reporting close the loop, all sourced from the same trade and cash records.
This end-to-end automation is why institutions adopt Calypso to consolidate legacy systems: the value is less any single feature and more the removal of reconciliation and re-keying between front, middle and back office.
