- To SELECT of the PSE (contact) or PPSE (contactless): the card has no directory. Contact terminals switch to the list-of-AIDs method; a contactless card without a PPSE cannot be used.
- To SELECT of an AID: that application is not on the card; the terminal tries the next AID.
