What it is
The Kernel 8 Kernel Qualifier is a 5-byte element specific to the unified EMVCo Kernel 8 (C-8). It advertises the kernel version, whether local (offline) authentication applies, and which secure-channel and certificate algorithm suites the card supports — the parameters Kernel 8 uses to set up its authenticated, optionally encrypted contactless session.
Where it appears
Read from the card during Kernel 8 contactless processing.
