E-commerce entry. The card number (or a token) was entered for an e-commerce payment — the standard value for online card-not-present transactions, including remote chip use.

What it means for the transaction
- Authentication comes from 3-D Secure (UCAF/AAV in DE 48) and CVC2, not from the card itself.
- With a stored credential use 10; with a full EMV-format DSRP cryptogram in DE 55 use 09.
How 81 appears in DE 22
In ISO 8583 field 22 the first two digits are the PAN entry mode and the third is the terminal's PIN entry capability. EMV tag 9F39 carries only the two-digit entry mode.
